The Partnership for Youth and Family Ministry knows that you are the key to an effective congregational outreach to children, youth and young adults. The latest research (The Study of Exemplary Congregations in Youth Ministry) is clear that when the pastor fully supports passing on faith as a priority the children and youth grow mature Christian faith.

Sure, it?s not as simple as it sounds, but the point is? you make a huge difference in shaping the culture of your congregation. When you include young people in leadership, value their opinions, spend your time at camp, train and equip adults to work with youth or even preach to young people, you make an impact.

We support pastors by:

1. Having a clear core value system that supports the partnership between the church and the home.
2. Offering trainings, consultations, leadership coaching and retreats that equip families in your congregation for passing on faith.
3. The Disciple Project, a Christian leadership school for youth who have finished grade 8 through adults so that leaders, even pastors, can learn together.
4. Teaching Milestones Ministry, modeled at many of our congregations and integrated into all our practices
5. Equipping Adult Mentors
6. Advocating for a Safe Haven for all children in congregations
7. Teaching and practicing the Four Keys for faith formation in all we do (by Dr. David Anderson and Dr. Paul Hill in Frogs Without Legs Can?t Hear)
8. The Lutheran Youth Organization ? a system for growing Christian leaders for service at home, school, congregation and in the world.
9. Hosting discussions on key topics throughout the year.
10. Working with your congregational council and other leadership to align around values for faith formation.
11. Guiding congregational assessment and visioning processes for neighborhood outreach.

Preaching that Matters

There are a few things that really matter in preaching (according to someone who considers herself a professional listener!)

Speak in words we understand.

Talk about real life in the here and now.

Consider our kids.

?Pastors who read, who take advantage of continuing education, who travel and who get out of their office on a regular basis have more to offer. Congregations should beg their pastor to get out more!
