Lutheran Youth Organization

Our model for the Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO) is about servant leadership. Developing, equipping and supporting student leaders are another way that the LYO makes an impact on congregations and the world! High school students, young adults and adults are invited to use their gifts by serving on one of the five LYO @the crossing Planning Teams.

We are constantly learning, trying and developing new ways to serve congregations and grow leaders.

We have learned...
Students can lead-
Through training, mentoring, support and opportunities to create, students can successfully become leaders who use their voice and their skills to make a difference.

Gifts can be nurtured into areas of leadership-
Uncovering ones' gifts and passions, then nurturing them into areas of leadership produces leaders who are confident in their abilities and enjoy living life.

Serving others can transform lives-
Christians are called to serve. Servant leadership is about meeting the needs of others and accompaniment. Learning how to listen and identify where a person is coming from is critical to the success of a servant leader.

Adults and students can work together-
Training youth to understand that adults bring much wisdom to the table through life experience and training adults to understand that youth can lead is critical in creating a cross-generational culture which works side-by-side, honoring and respecting everyone's story.

Diversity must be honored-
In the 21st century diversity among race, gender, culture, economic class and age are a reality. Raising leaders who are exposed to the many dimensions of diversity honors the Body of Christ.
